How to Keep Calm in Any Situation: 5 Strategies That Will Make You as Cool as A Cucumber

Keep Calm

Be cool and confident in all situations (except when someone’s running towards you with a rolling pin in which your safest option is to RUN like crazy).

One of the easiest ways to keep your composure is to “breathe in deep and slow” (ideally throughout the day). This might not be too easy if you just had 2 extra-large pizzas, a bucket of fries, several chicken wings (with feathers) and an apple pie. Otherwise, it’s one of the fastest ways to put yourself back in the driver’s seat (preferably while the car is not moving at high speed).

Deep breathing (also referred to as diagrammatic breathing by Dudes in whitecoats) gives your body a “natural boost” of confidence and self-esteem. It promotes your wellbeing, rejuvenates your mind and soul. And just as importantly, it lets you know that you’re …breathing.

You can dialup that “elatedness” up by a few notches just by standing up tall, keeping your back straight and smiling (with ALL your teeth, including the ones way at the back).

Now, if you wanna make that “upliftment” more permanent and a part of your daily life, there are a few little habits that you’ll need to inject into your daily routine:

1. Meditate for 30 minutes a day – I recommend the “Mindfulness of Breathing” meditation or “Life flow” or both. If the half hour duration makes your eyebrows twirl start out with just 10 minutes.

2. Exercise for 30 minutes a day – Try P90X3 or a daily Power Walk or something similar. Again, it might be worth starting out “small”, with a slow 15-minute walk around the block, around the park or around your own home if you don’t like wondering too far from home. Then build up the pace and duration of those walks gradually until it becomes a “real workout”. If you “go hard” right out of the gate (as most “Superhero like trainers” recommend) you might be “going home very slow” with a couple of limbs and toes missing.

3. Drink a glass of water every hour – If that sounds a bit much start out with a teaspoonful per hour and build up gradually

4. Quit smoking and alcohol – Alcohol and Cigarettes has a habit of calming your nerves for a few brief minutes and then dropping you like a hot potato. That’s why people who drink or smoke generally tend to be more emotionally volatile (especially when their “high” starts running “low”).

5. Eat Healthy – Try a few raw fruit/veg/greens/nut smoothies for a week and feel the difference. If you didn’t like the taste, try it again. Or just try a different recipe. The “difference” won’t kick in until you reach the 7th day. So, don’t knock it before you complete that 7-day cycle. Also, you will need to be “free of alcohol, drugs and cigarettes” for this to have any kind of effect.
