Are You an Ambitious Person? Here are 3 Steps to Make Those Ambitions a Reality

ambitious person

Be ambitious! It’s possibly the sexiest trait there is for a Man; aside from being able to take down a big bad wolf with one single tantalizing punch (or a single bite, in extreme cases)

Don’t settle for where you are, even if you feel you have more hay in your barn than any of your neighbors.

If you are on the 10th floor, then there’s most likely another floor just above you with an even better view. And if you’re on the topmost floor, there’s probably a taller building (with a working elevator) right next to you.

If you had chosen to go down the employment route, then much of your rewards would be dependent upon your employer’s annual turnover, the market value of your job role, the actual value you’re bringing into the company, your employer’s everchanging mood, what he/she had for breakfast, and the weather.

Despite all the perks, working for someone else can only give you so much reward and freedom even if you were to earn more than two blue-collar horses combined.  In essence, it’s like being on a leash but with a greater radius. Ultimately, when they yank the chain, you have to “report to duty” (or call in sick whilst coughing profusely).

On top of all that, there are no guarantees to say that you’ll still be employed 12-months from now, even if you’re the best employee they have with the whitest teeth and the brightest smile.

Lastly, even if you managed to weather every lightning storm, survive every freefall (resulting from being tossed out the Boss’s window numerous times) and make it to the coveted “retirement mark” you may still have to find another job or a dozen other jobs to keep your lifeboat (i.e. your lifestyle, family and pets) afloat. That’s discounting the fact that a pack of chewing gum at that point could cost you a hundred dollars…plus tax.

If you’re still happy with the path that you’re on, then good for you. Besides, you can always go down the “promotion route” at any time to boost your income, benefits and the quality of the gift baskets you receive.

But if you don’t particularly like the idea of rationing your “abilities” to earn an income for far less than what you’re really worth, and don’t enjoy hitting your head on the ceiling every time you try expanding your wingspan, then perhaps it’s time for you to consider a different route: or more accurately venture down the road to “total freedom and prosperity” with no speed limits and traffic cops.

Now, if you’re the kind of person who has a hard-enough time choosing between cheesecakes and cakes (and therefore can’t decide which way to go), then the following questions should help steer you onto the right track:

  1. Do you have a dream in your heart to start your own Company?
  2. Have you always wanted to be a Singer, an Author, an Actor, a Chef, a Cat Behavior Consultant, a Dognapping Expert or a Shredded Cheese Authority?
  3. Is there an Entrepreneurial idea that’s been bouncing around in your head like a ping pong ball for years?
  4. If you had all the money in the World, and all your bills and mortgage were taken care of for life, then what would you be doing right now (aside from watching TV and munching on a bag of Doritos)?

Take time to go into the silence to find out what that is for you.
Sometimes, your Vision will just sprout out of your forehead one morning while you’re sipping on your cup of Coffee. At other times, we need to disconnect ourselves from the Busy-ness of our daily lives to allow the clouds that overshadow our subconscious minds to clear.

Now, a great way for you to tap into your “higher consciousness” is to take a couple of days out of your busy schedule to go somewhere scenic (or tropical) and allow your mind to just run wild, like a wild racehorse overdosed on Spicy Carrot Juice.

Oh, and don’t limit your journey of exploration to just what you love. You could also have a blast hating what you had always hated before, but with more enthusiasm. And get paid for it. For instance, maybe you love kicking the asses of criminals, of social and religious injustices, of bad parenting, drugs, alcohol, nicotine, cheap politics and the media (kinda like I do). Or maybe you just enjoy suing people with a bad taste for music. Whatever it is for you, if it’s ethical, legal, hamster friendly and makes you happy, then that’s most likely what you had been put on this earth to do.

I spent over 37 years zigzagging around like a Bumble bee, before eventually bumping headfirst onto the window of “total clarity”. Strangely enough, it was something that had been in my heart for years. But I was too afraid to “dive into the unknown” for a whole range of reasons, starting with my face, accent, name and my unusually pointy ears.

So, don’t be afraid to go the wrong way, a dozen times over if necessary. Those “zigzags” (or detours) are hardwired into your journey for the purposes of establishing the necessary foundation. It’s also worth mentioning that whilst you’re looking for your “destiny” (i.e. your true calling), your destiny is out there somewhere hopping trains day and night, in search of you. And one fine day, the two of you will ultimately meet… maybe at a mall somewhere.

Once you do, your next course of action should be to:

  1. Find the people and resources you need to bring that dream to fruition
  2. Find a Coach or Mentor whose been there and done that and is willing to help you every step of the way
  3. Keep your daytime job to finance your daydream (or dream) until it becomes a reality
